Germany 20 Mark 1918 Darlehnskassenschein | Reichsbank WWI Banknote | VG–F

CA$40.00

Issued on February 28, 1918, the 20 Mark Darlehnskassenschein was part of Germany’s wartime paper money system created to address coin shortages and finance the war effort. Printed with intricate geometric patterns and strong imperial imagery, the note reflects both authority and stability during a period of economic strain.

The obverse displays the denomination prominently in Gothic script, flanked by classical allegorical portraits and official Reichsbank inscriptions. The reverse features the Imperial Eagle above a large central “20,” accompanied by allegorical figures representing military strength and agricultural prosperity. These design elements make the note both historically significant and visually striking.
