CA$145.00

1931 Spain 100 Pesetas issue, released by the Banco de España and dated Madrid, 25 de Abril de 1931, coinciding with the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic. This is a historically important and visually impressive Spanish note, highly sought after by collectors of early 20th-century European currency.

The obverse features a finely engraved portrait of Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, known as El Gran Capitán, one of Spain’s most celebrated military leaders. The denomination “CIEN PESETAS” is prominently displayed within an ornate multicolor security design, accompanied by official signatures and serial number 4,461,715. The engraving quality and intricate guilloché work are characteristic of top-tier Spanish currency production of the era.

The reverse showcases a dramatic historical vignette depicting a battlefield scene attributed to “Pasado del Alisal”, illustrating themes of sacrifice, leadership, and national identity. The scene is richly detailed with expressive figures, depth, and movement, making this one of the most artistic Spanish currency designs of the period. Printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co., the craftsmanship is exceptional.

This issue reflects a pivotal moment in Spanish history and is considered a cornerstone piece for collectors of Spanish Pesetas, historical vignettes, or pre–Civil War European paper money.

A powerful and visually striking example with strong historical and collector appeal.
