1904 Germany 5 Mark Reichskassenschein – Imperial Issue – Classical Allegory – VF Condition
German 5 Mark Reichskassenschein was issued in 1904 during the Imperial German Empire, under the authority of the Reichsschuldenverwaltung. These notes were backed by the German state and circulated widely prior to World War I, representing one of the most artistically accomplished periods of German banknote design.
The obverse features a dramatic allegorical scene symbolizing state authority, industry, and national strength, rendered in rich blue intaglio engraving. The denomination Fünf Mark, issue date Berlin, 31 October 1904, and official signatures are clearly visible, framed by ornate security borders.
The reverse displays a powerful imperial eagle gripping a banner bearing the denomination 5 Mark, surrounded by complex guilloché patterns and legal warning text against counterfeiting. The bold eagle imagery is emblematic of Imperial Germany’s authority and stability at the turn of the 20th century.
Reichskassenscheine of this era are highly collectible due to their pre–World War I historical context, impressive engraving quality, and relatively low survival rate in higher grades. This example offers excellent visual appeal and strong detail for collectors of Imperial German, pre-WWI, or European historical banknotes.
A solid addition to any world paper money collection or German history–focused set.
