1897 Cuba 20 Centavos Banco Español de la Isla de Cuba – Silver Payable “En Metálico” – ABNCo – VF
A historic late-Spanish-colonial Cuban banknote issued just one year before the Spanish-American War and Cuban independence. This attractive 20 Centavos fractional note was payable in silver (“En Metálico”) and printed by the renowned American Bank Note Company, New York.
The design features:
• Spanish crown and arms at center
• Classic ABNCo black engraving with intricate guilloché
• Large “20” counters on both sides
• Agricultural vignette on reverse showing oxen and sugar cane transport
