Greece 1943 5000 Drachmai Banknote – WWII Occupation Issue – Third Issue – Bank of Greece - F

CA$55.00

Issued on July 10, 1943, this 5,000 Drachmai note was printed during the height of World War II under Axis occupation. It represents the accelerating inflation that would eventually lead to the massive multi-million and billion-drachma notes of 1944.

The obverse features a classical Greek helmeted portrait framed by intricate guilloche engraving and mythological relief scenes. The reverse displays a dramatic ancient Greek chariot scene with bold 5,000 denomination panels and ornate border work.

This “Third Issue” type is highly collectible as it captures the transition period before the full hyperinflation collapse of late 1944. It remains one of the more visually striking wartime Greek notes due to its strong classical imagery and detailed Value panels.

A desirable type note for collectors of:

  • WWII occupation currency

  • Greek drachma series

  • European wartime inflation notes

  • Classical mythological banknote designs
